Role Summary

As Investigator-Analyst, the successful candidate will make a strong contribution to the Criminal Enforcement Division by participating in a team that is responsible for enforcing competition and consumer protection legislation. Reporting to a Senior Investigator, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to develop investigative and case management experience.

The successful candidate will need to be flexible and highly organised, ensuring that records are maintained to the highest standards and ensuring that reporting on ongoing work is available at any point in time. You will also work closely with other Divisional colleagues as required.  You will be responsible for delivering specific areas of the Divisional work. The successful candidate will on occasion be expected to travel both nationally and internationally as part of their duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations and participate in enforcement activities including conducting interviews and taking part in search operations and/or inspections.

  • Assessment and analysis of complaints using agreed case handling criteria.

  • Conduct desk-based research into particular issues as directed.

  • Respond by phone, letter or email to consumer and competition queries and complaints.

  • Produce high-quality written assessments of issues and complaints assigned. 

  • Draft Case Notes for Senior Investigator including recommendations for further action.

  • Contribute generally to the development and achievement of the organisation’s strategic goals, and particularly to Divisional objectives by participating in cross-divisional projects as required.

 

Technical and Professional Requirements

Essential

  • Experience of assisting /conducting investigations (or inspections) into breaches of statutory or regulatory provisions.

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work on one’s own initiative.

  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, particularly in building relations and influencing others.

  • Intermediate PC skills with particular aptitude for using Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Full Irish driving licence.

Desirable

  • Relevant third level qualification e.g. law, business, regulation, economics or related discipline.

  • Established knowledge of competition, consumer protection and/or criminal law OR a demonstrated interest in this area.

  • A sound understanding of the Irish legal system and some knowledge of the rules of evidence and procedure.

  • Project management.

  • Experience of using case management systems to manage and progress work/ caseload.
